The Royals released their 2017 regular season schedule today, and while it is looking like it won't be another title defense season, it is filled with several exciting games to look forward to. The Royals will open the season on April 3 at 3:10 CT in Target Field in Minnesota, the first time they have opened the season on the road since 2014. The average temperature in the Twin Cities on April 3 is about 51 degrees, so pack your thermal underwear.
The Royals will then head to Houston over the weekend before celebrating their home opener on April 10 against the Oakland Athletics. In interleague play, the Royals will play the Giants in a pair of home-and away two-game series, April 18-19 in Kansas City and June 13-14 in San Francisco. It will be the first time the two teams have faced each other since they squared off in the 2014 World Series.
The Rockies travel to Kauffman Stadium August 22-24. The Royals will visit Wil Myers and the Padres June 9-11 at Petco Field, where Eric Hosmer won his All-Star Game MVP On July 7-9, Kansas City will play at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles for the first time in 2003 when they take on the Dodgers. The Royals end the regular season with an interleague matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks, September 29 to October 1 at Kauffman Stadium.
The cross-state Cardinals will be in town August 7-8, with the Royals playing in St. Louis the next two nights. The Yankees come to town May 16-18, with the Royals returning the favor in New York the following week. The Royals have a pair of ten-game homestands, with a long stretch from April 28 until May 7, and another one just after the All-Star break from July 14-23. They also have a pair of ten-game road trips, going out of town May 19-28 to Minnesota, New York to play the Yankees, and Cleveland and again in September 14-24 when they travel to Cleveland, Toronto, and Chicago to play the White Sox. The Royals close the season with 23 of their final 29 games against divisional opponents.
Major League Baseball has its first scheduled doubleheader in some time, with the Rays hosting the Athletics for two games on June 10.
Here is the complete 2017 Kansas City Royals schedule. Game times and promotions will be announced later.
