The Royals aren't going to the playoffs, but they can still play spoiler to the Tigers. They look to attempt that, and to even the series today.
Yordano Ventura will go to the mound for the Royals, and beyond even trying to spoil the Tigers he will be attempting to continue to build on a strong second half that's seem him with a shiny 3.42 ERA, even if a lot of the other stats say he's been exactly the same pitcher. You've heard a hundred times that the championship window for the Royals probably closes next year, and if they want to make another run to the playoffs they're going to need Ventura to be better. There's no better time to turn into that better pitcher than this afternoon.
The Tigers send Daniel Norris to face off against their divisional rival as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive. Norris was acquired in a deal with the Blue Jays for ace pitcher David Price last season. He's no Michael Fulmer but he's managed to mostly hold his own. He rarely pitches late into games but he's yet to give up more than three earned runs in an appearance this season.

It may not matter if the Royals win or lose for their fans, anymore, but it sure would be nice to stop getting embarrassed.
