It's the last Friday of the last week of the season. Baseball is a beautiful game. It has so much of life and love wrapped up in it that it becomes hard to dismiss even when, and perhaps especially when, things aren't going so well. Because that is when the game imitates life the most. Sometimes, the strike three call is an out for all of us, the late tag a missed opportunity, the replay review an impossibility of life – and hence why we hate replay so much.
Yordano Ventura is twirling tonight, for the last time in a long season that has seen both struggles and success, but more of the former than the latter. He is 11-11 on the year with a 4.40 ERA, which is about as melancholy as a pitcher's line can be.
