The Royals have recalled infielder Christian Colon from AAA Omaha, the first day he was allowed to be brought back after they sent him down on August 31. Colon was eligible to rejoin the Royals once Omaha’s season finished on Monday. The 27-year old is hitting .228/.295/.268 in 47 games with the Royals this year.
The Royals also promoted outfielder Daniel Nava from Omaha. The Royals had acquired him from the Angels in a trade in late August. Nava was hitting .235/.309/.303 in 45 games with the Angels this year. The switch-hitter is a better hitter as a left-hander. He temporarily left the Omaha ballclub last week to be at the birth of his child.
Kansas City also promoted pitcher Kevin McCarthy from Omaha. The right-handed reliever had a 2.97 ERA in 33 1⁄3 innings for Omaha after posting a 3.13 ERA in 34 2⁄3 innings for AA Northwest Arkansas earlier this year. The 24-year old did have a spike in strikeout rate this year up to 7.8 per-nine-innings, but also walked more, up to 3.2 per-nine-innings.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals designated pitcher Nick Tepesch and outfielder Reymond Fuentes for assignment. The Royals had claimed Tepesch off waivers back in July. The Blue Springs native has pitched in the Rangers, Athletics and Dodgers organizations this year. Fuentes was on the Royals opening day roster, but struggled in Omaha this year after his demotion, hitting .254/.325/.317.
