Drew Butera came in the game to catch and had an RBI single in the ninth to put the Royals on top. Perez is second among all catchers in baseball in games caught this year with 113. He was hitting .254/.294/.455 going into this game.
The Royals are currently carrying just two catchers on the roster - Perez and Butera. Catcher Tony Cruz is on the 40-man roster and could be called up now that Omaha’s season is over.
