The United States barely got past Colombia last night 3-2 in extra innings despite a terrific performance from Jose Quintana. But they’ll face a much tougher task tonight, as they take on the Dominican team at 5:30 CT on MLB Network. While the Colombian featured mostly minor leaguers with little big league experience, the Dominican team is full of Major League All-Stars like Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano, and Jose Bautista.
The Dominicans won their opener against Canada 9-2 and are likely to start former Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez tonight. Marcus Stroman goes for the Americans, followed by Tanner Roark. The game is a matchup of the top two teams from Pool C and is expected to break an attendance record at Marlins Park.
Eric Hosmer is back in the starting lineup tonight.
