The United States continues play in the World Baseball Classic in the second round as they face off against Venezuela tonight on MLB Network. The two countries join Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in Pool F, with the top two teams from the pool moving on to the semi-finals. Puerto Rico defeated the Dominican Republic 3-1 last night. Japan and the Netherlands have already qualified for the semis.
Drew Smyly goes for the Americans tonight against a tough foe, Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez. Venezuela will have to play without catcher Salvador Perez, who re-joined the Royals after injuring his knee. Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar will be in action for Team Venezuela, who thumped the Royals in a spring training exhibition 11-0 last week.
