Both the United States and Puerto Rico won their first game in Pool F, with the top two teams from the pool headed to the semifinals to join Japan and the Netherlands. The United States defeated Venezuela 4-2, thanks to a two-run home run by Eric Hosmer, while Puerto Rico defeated the Dominican Republic. Puerto Rico has yet to lose in the World Baseball Classic who will throw Mets pitcher Seth Lugo on the mound against Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman.
