The Fighting O’Briens are no more, but the Royals must go on nonetheless.
The good news is that only have three more spring training games remaining before Danny Duffy takes the mound against former-Royal Ervin Santana in Minnesota on Monday.
The Royals will close out the spring with a three-game series against the Rangers, beginning today, with said Duffy taking the mound for Kansas City. Duffy will be opposed by our old friend Dillon Gee, who gets the start for Texas.
The Royals will look like this:

While the Rangers will look like this:
This afternoon's lineup vs. Royals: DeShields CF, Andrus SS, Odor 2B, Napoli 1B, Gomez DH, Lucroy C, Gallo 3B, Mazara LF, Hoying RF, Gee P.

Some other items of note:
- Joakim Soria will remain as the eighth inning guy this season, according to Ned Yost.
- With Raul Mondesi being named the starting second baseman, the battle for the final roster spot will likely come down to Whit Merrifield and Christian Colon. Cheslor Cuthbert could also be thrown into that conversation. Merrifield’s options may prove to be attractive, with Colon and Cuthbert both having no remaining option years.
- Alex Gordon is leading off!
Today’s game can be heard at MLB.com and will start at 2:05 PM CST.
