Left-handed pitcher Foster Griffin will represent the Royals and America at the Futures Game to be played July 9 in Miami during All-Star week. The game features future prospects in a matchup of Team USA vs. The World.
Foster Griffin was originally a first-round sandwich pick in 2014 out of high school in Orlando, Florida. He has struggled a bit so far in his career, but has taken a big step forward this year with a 2.86 ERA in ten starts for Wilmington before being promoted to AA Northwest Arkansas and posting a 1.93 ERA in six starts there. Overall he has 91 strikeouts and 30 walks in 94 minor league innings this year..
Griffin joins a Team USA roster that includes White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech, and Blue Jays outfielder Bo Bichette. He may have to face an opposing lineup that features Top 100 prospects like Washington’s Victor Robles, Boston’s Rafael Devers, and White Sox slugger Yoan Moncada. Full rosters are listed here.
Team USA will be managed by former Marlins catcher Charles Johnson while Team World will be managed by former Marlins shortstop Edgar Renteria. The Futures Game will air live on MLB Network at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 9.
