The Royals have recalled pitcher Jake Junis from Omaha and have optioned reliever Seth Maness to AAA Omaha. Junis will make the start tonight against Houston. Junis is in his fourth stint with the Major League club, having put up a 2.70 ERA in three outings, including a start on May 21 against the Twins when he gave up two runs in 4 2⁄3 innings.
Junis had a 2.34 ERA in seven starts for Omaha with 57 strikeouts and just eight walks in 42 1⁄3 innings. He last worked on June 1, striking out nine with no walks in six innings, allowing one run against Memphis. The 24-year old is helping to fill out a depleted rotation that currently has Danny Duffy and Nate Karns on the disabled list.
Seth Maness had a 3.72 ERA in 9 2⁄3 innings with four strikeouts and two walks, but he allowed opponents to hit .381/.400/.619 against him. The groundball artist has career 3.21 ERA in 247 Major League innings, but had a procedure on his elbow this past winter.
