Royals Rumblings - News for June 8, 2017
Salvy just got dinged up in last night’s game.
“He’s day to day,” Yost said. “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”
The ailment, which Yost described as a “dinged” thumb, occurred while Perez was receiving a sinker from reliever Scott Alexander. When Houston’s Carlos Beltran struck out on a foul tip in the eighth, the baseball caught Perez’s thumb in an awkward fashion, Yost said.
“Alexander was throwing a tremendous sinker today,” Yost said. “When he struck out Beltran, the ball kind of caught (Perez) on the thumb and dinged his thumb a little bit.”
Ramon Torres got his first major-league hit last night:
"It's very special, something I'll never forget," Torres said through interpreter Pedro Grifol. "It's something I've been thinking about. I dedicate this to my mom."
Torres' mom had been on his mind heavily since Tuesday night when he found out he was going to be promoted. His first call went to her.
"She didn't say much," Torres said. "She just started crying over the phone."

The Nationals are still reported to be interested in Kelvin Herrera:
The Nationals will be “keeping a close eye on” Royals closer Kelvin Herrera as the trade deadline approaches, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports. Currently sitting in first place by a whopping 11.5 games in the NL East with a record of 36-20, the Nationals will be searching for a closer to lock down the back end of the bullpen.
The Nationals have already had five pitchers record saves this year, with four recording multiple saves. They recently named 24-year-old Koda Glover at the club’s closer, but that has yielded mixed results as his ERA has ballooned to 4.58, despite converting seven of eight save opportunities.
With closers coming at an incredibly high value, the Nats may look to acquiring Kelvin Herrera, who is currently 1-1 with a 4.30 ERA, and he has converted 12 of his 14 save opportunities. Herrera has been selected to the past two All-Star games for the American League, but is in the midst of a disappointing season as Kansas City continues spiraling out of contention.
Minor League Ball’s AsherFeltman thinks the Royals farm system is coming back into form.
Jeff Sullivan wonders if Jimmy Nelson might actually be an ace?
Joe Kelly threw really hard the other night.
Aaron Gleeman looks at both Albert Pujolses.
From whence does the weather data for ballparks come?
Apparently Freeform, the rebranded ABC Family, thinks it’s a good idea to remake the rude, crude, and full of attitude Misfits. This will surely go well. The only ray of hope is that iZombie and Veronica Mars scribe Diane Ruggiero-Wright is at the helm.
What if you got struck by lightning while sitting at your desk at work? What if an alligator tried to take out your airplane?
