On game 92, the Kansas City Royals stand 45-46, three games out of first place in the American League Central and two games out of the second Wild Card spot.

On game 92 in 2014, the Royals stood at 47-44, 6.5 games out of first place in the AL Central and 1.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot. As we know, that team grabbed the first Wild Card spot and went to the World Series.

The 2017 Royals squad is in a similar position to the 2014 squad at this point in the season, but the similarities might end soon. From game 99 to game 125, the 2014 Royals went a stunning 22-5 and catapulted themselves into contention.

This year’s team will need to do a similar thing to not only grab a playoff spot but also prove that they are actually a good team worthy of a playoff spot.

Tonight’s as good as an opportunity as any. Kansas City looks to get back to .500 tonight in the second game of the series against the Detroit Tigers. Travis Wood will start.
