Royals V. Rockies: Game CXXV Thread

Kansas City/Colorado, the oldest rivalry in sports.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

I am not one for hyperbole, but I can say without much in the way of exaggeration that this is the most important game that the Royals will play today.

Ian Kennedy tilts for Kansas City. On the year he is 4-9 with 5.06 ERA, owed mostly to a severe home run problem, a decrease in strikeout rate, and gobs of hard contact. It is probably safe to assume that Kennedy will not be opting out after this season, as I doubt he would be able to garner a three-year, $40 million contract from anyone.

Opposing Kennedy will be Antonio Senzatela, whose name I just learned how to spell, and I will add it to the catalogue along with Jeff Samardzija, A.J. Pierzynski, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Arquimedes Caminero, Mark Rzepczysnki, and Ed Hug.

Senzatela is 10-4 on the year with a 4.56 ERA.

Around the AL, the Twins play the White Sox tonight while the Angels host the Rangers. The Mariners play at Atlanta, while the Rays host the Blue Jays (and Tampa is currently losing 3-0).
