Royals Rumblings - News for November 6, 2018

Rustin Dodd at The Athletic previews the General Manager’s meetings this week.

On the final day of the season, Moore indicated that he viewed super utility man Whit Merrifield as an important part of the club’s future, reiterating a stance he voiced before the trade deadline.

“For us to win going forward,” Moore said, “we need Whit Merrifield on the team. And we have him under control for the next four years.”

Merrifield, though, is a good player on a rebuilding club, and good players are usually in demand. So don’t be surprised to hear Merrifield’s name bandied about this offseason, even if Moore continues to downplay his desire to move him.

David Lesky at Baseball Prospectus Kansas City considers Whit Merrifield and other names that could pop up in trade rumors.

I’m personally torn here because I love Merrifield and would love to see him with the Royals for as long as possible. His two best positions, second base and center field, both have young solutions in the organization who are both at least close to ready. The Royals are likely going to want a top 30 prospect, top 75 prospect and two more for Whit. They’d likely get offered a top 50-60 prospect and two more, with one maybe being in the back of the top 100. I don’t think they’d jump at that, but you’ll probably hear about it starting this week.

The Royals are here to do two things: Drink beer and cut payroll.
