Royals Rumblings - News for February 19, 2018

Dayton Moore is ready to move on from the last era of Royals baseball.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said even with the money saved from Eric Hosmer agreeing to a deal with the Padres, the club is unlikely to pursue other costly free agents, and that includes Mike Moustakas.

”I’ve been very clear we have two objectives this offseason,” Moore said at an impromptu news conference on Sunday afternoon. “We have to build our farm system back to what it was in 2010-2011, and we have to get payroll at a level to get us more flexible for the future.

”That period of time [of high payrolls], that phase of who we are, is over. We need to move on.”

Ned Yost is non-committal about who will play first base.

“I have no solution right now,” Yost said. “There are still free agents out there. That may or may not be a solution right now. There’s not a lot of them out there. And they have to fit with what we want to do.”...

”It has to be the right guy,” Yost said. “It has to be a guy with tremendous makeup and a team player, and preferably left-handed if we can get it. And you would like [a good defender].”

Danny Duffy wants to put the drama of 2017 behind him.

“Everybody has flaws. Everybody had things happen in their life they wish didn’t,” Duffy said. “Once I hit the bottom floor, there was no way to go but up. I’m excited to erase and re-record.

”What I put myself through in regards to the thing that happened in August last year, I don’t want to see any of these kids put anybody else’s life in danger like I did. I’m looking forward to really setting out to being the last Royal to have that happened to. That’s my ultimate goal.”
