The Royals are already making their second trip to Detroit this year, and will have a doubleheader today to make up for the April 4 game that was postponed due to bitterly cold weather. It is all the way up to the mid-40s for this afternoon’s game, although it could get as high as 56 this evening.
Jason Hammel goes against right-hander Michael Fulmer in game one. Both could be on the trade block this summer as the Royals and Tigers undergo rebuilds. Fulmer obviously has much more value as a young, very solid pitcher with plenty of controllable years left. Hammel has been rather frustrating at times this year, but has a decent ERA of 3.86, and has just three unintentional walks and one home run allowed in his 16 1⁄3 innings pitched. Scott Barlow is still with the team as the 26th man, hoping to make his Major League debut.
Jorge Soler sits in Game 1, with Whit Merrifield in right and Ryan Goins in the lineup for some reason.
