As I drove to downtown Kansas City this morning, I turned on 610 Sports Radio. The Day Shift guys were discussing how bad Ian Kennedy had been, especially with the context of his gigantic, $70 million contract. He gets paid too much to be bad, they said.
That is, of course, true, but somebody also mentioned offhand something that stuck with me. One of the guys mentioned the Kansas City Royals had lost four in a row, and all I could think of was ‘Huh. Really?’
In any other season, a four-game losing streak would be a thing of consternation. But not for this rebuilding team, when it just sort of is what it is.
