How I became a Royals fan

Like father, like son is probably the most simplistic way of explaining this. My dad got to watch the 1985 World Series when he was in College. Funny enough, I watched the 2014 and 2015 world series while I was in college as well. He's been a fan as long as he can remember, and even my Grandpa has been a fan since the team was born. I'm from Grand Island, NE which is about an hour away so basically the state was divided in what team to support until Alex Gordon became a Royal (or until we started competing for a playoff spot, depends on who you talk to).

Some of my best memories come from when this team was tough to watch. I can remember going to a Royals vs. Orioles series when I was around 8 or 9 years old. It was back when the team had the Krispy Kreme donut deals. Side note: we ended up getting what seemed like 5 boxes of a dozen donuts that weekend. I can remember getting excited to watch Angel Berroa stride to the plate during that first game. He turned in an 0-3 performance that night, but didn't change the fact I got to see someone I loved to watch play in person from the nosebleed section.

This fandom has continued with trying to rebuild the team in MLB The Show each year (and failing each time and throwing the console across the room when Soria would give up a dinger), Going out and buying a powder blue Grenkie Jersey (just for him to get traded within the year), to following stats of the team and the Omaha Royals/ Stormchasers as the year goes on to beg "hey they should be calling up (insert overachieving prospect here)! (Underachieving player at MLB level) has been terrible this year!"

It's great to think I've finally seen my team win a championship in my lifetime (next one I need is the Vikings to win one but, I'm not holding my breath) and now it's time to restart the process of building up for a championship again. But the process, as painful as it could be, is what makes the championship that much sweeter. Here's to winning another championship in at least my lifetime! (rubs lucky rabbits foot, nails horseshoe above bedroom, knocks on wood, and prays) Go Royals!
