Royals left-handed starter Eric Skoglund has a sprain of his left ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), according to Rustin Dodd of The Athletic. A UCL sprain is the injury typically associated with Tommy John surgery. There is no indication yet that Skoglund will need surgery. He has been placed on the 10-day disabled list, with reliever Eric Stout replacing him on the active roster for now.
The 25-year old Skoglund had a 6.70 ERA in nine starts for the Royals with 7.1 strikeouts and 2.5 walks-per-nine-innings. He gave up six runs in less than five innings of work on Friday against the Rangers.
Update: Brad Keller will take Skoglund’s place in the rotation on Wednesday.
#Royals Rule-5 acquisition Brad Keller has been told he will start in Eric Skoglund's spot. Threw 33 pitches in 2 innings today. Will come back a day early and start the series finale vs. Twins on Wednesday.
