Today is the non-waiver trade deadline, meaning the last day players can be traded without clearing waivers. Already we have seen a lot of activity before the deadline, and the Royals have moved outfielder Jon Jay, pitcher Kelvin Herrera, and third baseman Mike Moustakas in separate trades.
I wouldn’t expect the Royals to be too active today now that those players have been dealt. Lucas Duda could be on the move as Ryan O’Hearn has been promoted. Dayton Moore has said Whit Merrifield will not be traded. That probably means Danny Duffy won’t be dealt as well. You could see Dayton perhaps making another acquisition like he did last week getting Brian Goodwin. He has been rumored to be “poking around” on Mariners first baseman Ryon Healy.
Here are the notable trades made this week around baseball:
Rays acquire Tommy Pham and international slot money from the Cardinals for Justin Williams, Genesis Cabrera and Roel Ramirez
Astros acquire Roberto Osuna from the Blue Jays for Ken Giles, David Paulino, and Hector Perez
Braves acquire Adam Duvall from the Reds for Lucas Sims, Matt Wisler, and Preston Tucker
Red Sox acquire Ian Kinsler and cash from the Angels for Ty Buttrey and Williams Jerez
Yankees acquire Lance Lynn and cash from the Twins for Tyler Austin and Luis Rijo
Pirates acquire Keone Kela from the Rangers for Taylor Hearn and a player to be named later
Mariners acquire Adam Warren from the Yankees for international bonus pool money
Braves acquire Brad Brach from the Orioles for international bonus pool money
Bryce Harper is available! Or not.
The Pirates, Braves, and Padres are pursuing Chris Archer.
The Indians are looking in on some Marlins players.
The Yankees are interested in Curtis Granderson and Cameron Maybin.
The Mets are looking for the right offer for Devin Mesoraco.
The Reds are prioritizing moving Matt Harvey.
