Seuly Matias named lone Royals rep for the Futures Game

The outfielder could show some pop All-Star weekend.

Royals outfield prospect Seuly Matias has had a remarkable season, leading all of minor league baseball in home runs with 24. That power has earned him a ticket to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, to be held July 15 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. during All-Star week. The Dominican-born Matias will play on the World team as they take on U.S.-born prospects.

The 19-year old is in his first year of full-season ball, and has had some ups and downs for Low-A Lexington, batting .219/.304/.566 with a 37.7% strikeout rate. Still, that power is something to behold. Joining Matias on the World Teams are Indians catcher Francisco Mejia, Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos, and Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis, Jr. The team will be managed by former Red Sox star David Ortiz.

The U.S. team, managed by former Twins outfielder Torii Hunter, is loaded with Top 100-ranked prospects, including Rockies shortstop Brandan Rodgers, Brewers second basman Keston Hiura, Angels outfielder Jo Adell, and Astros pitcher Forrest Whitley. You can see complete rosters here.

The game will air on MLB Network live at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 15 with Greg Amsinger, Harold Reynolds, Lauren Shehadi and Jim Callis, with live streaming at MLB.com.
