Game CVII: Royals @ White Sox

What is this “sweep” you speak of?

The last time the Royals swept a team on the road, they were the hottest team in baseball and just 1.5 games back of the first place Cleveland Indians.

That was just over a year ago, as the Royals thumped the Detroit Tigers 16-2 on a Wednesday night in Motown. Eric Hosmer led the way with six RBI, four of which came on his first career grand slam to cap a nine-run 7th inning. That game also featured a benches-clearing scuffle in the 9th.

The Royals left Detroit with their eyes squarely on their third postseason appearance in four seasons.

“We’re in a good spot right now,” Hosmer said after the game.

The Royals would win their next game in Boston on the back of Mike Moustakas’ 30th homer of the season to extend their season-high winning streak to nine games. Since that day, Kansas City is 60-108. A lot has changed.

The Royals will send Brad Keller to the mound looking for their first road sweep of the season just over a week after they completed their first sweep of any kind against the Twins at Kauffman Stadium.

He will be opposed by 24-year-old right-hander Reynaldo Lopez, who has given up seven earned runs in 14 inning against the Royals this season.

Here are your lineups for today’s afternoon ballgame.
