Royals Rumblings - News for August 24, 2018
The Royals lost on a walk-off error last night on a ground ball to Ryan O’Hearn, who tried to get the out at home to Salvador Perez, but threw low, allowing the run to score.
“I tried to keep my foot [on the plate] and make the scoop,” Perez said. “It’s a little tough.”
Danny Duffy talks about his return to action last night.
“I didn’t really have any expectations,” said Duffy, who had allowed six earned runs in each of his two starts before going on the disabled list Aug. 13 . “I just wanted to go out there with plenty in the tank and be efficient. I could have been more efficient. But I did make some pitches when I needed to.”
Rustin Dodd profiles new Royals reliever Jake Newberry.
This was the decision Jake Newberry faced in the summer of 2012. A recent graduate of Mira Mesa High School north of San Diego, he was one of the best prep baseball players in the area. Talented enough to throw a baseball 90 mph, but not exactly coveted by major-league clubs, he was not drafted until the 37th round of the MLB draft by the Royals. He saw the difficult decision in simple terms.
“Live out a dream,” Newberry said. “See what happens. At 17, there was that or go to a junior college, anyway. So you know, try to play for two, three, four years … see what happens.”
See what happens. Why not?
