It’s still players’ weekend and Cleveland’s baseball team is still in Kansas City. The Royals certainly won in dramatic fashion, last night, but if the pitching matchup for this one holds true to form they’re going to have a much more difficult time pulling off the feat, tonight. Cleveland sends their ace, Corey Kluber, to the mound. Corey has won 16 games this season which is impressive even for an entirely meaningless stat. That’s more than 20% of his team’s victories for those of you counting at home. If you’re looking for some more meaningful stats you can admire his 2.74 ERA or his 3.25 FIP, whichever you prefer.
The Royals will counter with Heath Fillmyer who is not remotely close to Kluber’s performance in any of those stats, meaningful or otherwise. It’s interesting how much fans appreciate Fillmyer, recently, despite the fact that he’s only actually had a couple decent starts for the team. His last outing was by far his worst as he only managed to pitch three innings while allowing an identical number of home runs and twice as many homers. That blew the six-run lead his team had given him in the early going and eventually cost them the game.
