This interminable season is almost over. Everything has already been decided for both baseball teams, today, so there is very little to play for. The Royals have split the series thus far and can guarantee a winning month by winning tonight. That’s about it.
Of possible note is the pitching matchup. Corey Kluber will face off against Jakob Junis. You may recall from earlier this year that people compared the two. But uh they don’t look so similar now. Corey Kluber is 20-7 with a 2.83 ERA and strikes out more than a batter per inning. He’s in the conversation for the Cy Young Award. Junis is 8-12 with a 4.42 ERA. He is not even really in the conversation for best pitcher on the Royals’ roster. And it’s not because of the dominance of other players, either.
This is the penultimate game of the season. You all know that, of course. But I had an excuse to use penultimate in a sentence and by golly, I wasn’t going to pass up on that opportunity.
