As opposed to the uninteresting National League Championship Series, where the Washington Nationals are shellacking the St. Louis Cardinals three games to none, we enter the third game of the American League Championship Series this afternoon tied up at one apiece.
Wait. Did you just read what I said? This afternoon????? It is Tuesday!!!!
I would like to take this time to rail against Major League Baseball for the absolutely and incredibly idiotic scheduling of playoff games in the afternoon on weekdays. Playoff baseball is, as the Gen Z-ers say, “lit, fam.” It is fantastic. It’s the one time where the unwritten rulebook takes a backseat to actually enjoying the game, and it’s the one time of year where every single pitch actually and really does matter.
And it’s being played in the afternoon on a weekday! Unbelievable. Can you imaging a Thursday afternoon NFL playoff game? A second round NBA game on a Monday? It’s ludicrous and I hate it. Don’t tell me it’s difficult to schedule stuff for the evening. Major League Baseball is a $10 billion industry that uses industry-specific locations. Get it done.
As for the game itself, the Houston Astros are sending out Gerritt Cole, who is looking every bit like the Playoff Ace that happens once every few years who just destroys everyone in his wake. Good luck to the New York Yankees. Still, it ought to be a good game, because the short porch in left field could make for some fun.
