Royals Rumblings - News for November 12, 2019
Lynn Worthy looks at the decisions the Royals will have to make this off-season.
Figuring out what they want to do in the outfield and whether or not Gordon will be part of it will set the table for a lot of decisions.
If Gordon retires, that also opens an everyday spot for Merrifield or another player if Soler is a full-time DH.
The Royals could always choose to trade one of their established players — perhaps Merrifield or Soler — for pitching help. That would also free up space for either internal options in the outfield or a free-agent addition.

1. Sept. 3: Soler the new KC home-run champ
The Royals knew it was only a matter of time before Soler would set the single-season home-run mark. And on this night, Soler set the record with his 39th home run, a three-run shot in the third inning off Daniel Norris of the Tigers. The homer broke Mike Moustakas’ record of 38. Kansas City won, 6-5.
Jeff Zimmerman looks at whether the Royals will steal bases under Mike Matheny.
Again, nothing points to Matheny hating stolen bases but I’d love to the narrative to continue. If anything, he may give Adalberto Mondesi a stronger green light. Making the assumption that the above increase in stolen bases happens to Mondesi and he gets 500 PA, he’ll see about a 2 SB increase (47.2 SB to 49.8 SB) in his stolen bases per PA. It’s not a ton, but it’s not the huge drop everyone is predicting.
