The sale of the Royals to John Sherman may not have happened if Sherman treated his missed calls like I treat mine (if it’s a real person who needs to reach me, they will call back or send a text):
Sherman detailed how the transition from the team’s previous owner, David Glass, began with a simple phone call -- one Sherman let go to voicemail, thinking it was a robocall -- during Spring Training earlier this year. Sherman, then a minority owner with the Indians, was in Goodyear, Ariz., at the time. He later returned the call and was told that Glass intended to sell the team and that Sherman was his first choice to take over.
In a division-wide roundup of each team’s most attractive trade chips, Jeffrey Flanagan offered up some pitching prospects from the Royals:
Brady Singer (club’s No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline), Daniel Lynch (No. 3), Jackson Kowar (No. 5), and Kris Bubic (No. 6) all seem to have a legitimate chance to crack through to the big leagues in the next three years, which would change the dynamics of that rebuild.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com ran down possible non-tender candidates for every team, landing on Cheslor Cuthbert as his prediction for the Royals:
Since he had 510 plate appearances in 2016, Cuthbert has been a part-time player for the Royals over the past three years, splitting time as a backup option at both corner infield spots. He’s eligible for arbitration for the second time this year, leaving him in danger of being non-tendered by Kansas City.
Though Alec Lewis’s beat for The Athletic is the Royals, he filed this story after stumbling upon the first women’s scout weekend, a training seminar for women to learn more about baseball scouting.
Left-handed reliever Blaine Hardy, who was drafted by the Royals, has spent his whole MLB career with the Tigers. Now he’s continuing his tour of the AL Central by signing with the Twins on a minors deal.
Mike Effing Trout, man.
Didn’t know I could still be shocked by a Mike Trout Fact, but @jaysonst delivered. https://t.co/Gjy20EFg4Q pic.twitter.com/5o1hMmX1Iz

Free agent reliever Sam Dyson is under investigation after a pair of Instagram posts make reference to violence against his girlfriend and her cat. [NOTE: there will be absolutely no space made on this site for jokes about domestic violence or animal cruelty, no matter how clever you think your joke about how much you hate cats is.]
Well, this seems like a system that works: 42% of new cancer patients lose their life savings in pursuit of treatment.
Margaret Atwood spoke to Audubon magazine about the importance of birds, and wrote them five new poems.
In this oral history of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ I learned they almost cut ‘Part of Your World’ out. Honest to goodness, I reference the verse about gadgets and gizmos aplenty any time I have to describe things in my possession.
What books are you all reading these days? I’m working on ‘Hollow Kingdom’ by Kira Jane Buxton, which is told from the POV of a domesticated crow. I wasn’t sure about it when I started, because the narrator was a bit too clever, but I kept at it and am enjoying it more.
