Royals Rumblings - News for December 26, 2019
Jim Callis of MLB.com lists the Royals as having one of the best farm systems of the decade.
The final spot on our Top 10 came down to Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay, and the Royals’ 2014 pennant and 2015 World Series championship were the deciding factors. While the system didn’t churn out a true superstar, Salvador Perez, Mike Moustakas, Danny Duffy, Eric Hosmer, Greg Holland and Kelvin Herrera formed a homegrown nucleus on those two Fall Classic clubs, which were boosted by trades that included Jake Odorizzi and Sean Manaea. More recent successes include Whit Merrifield and Adalberto Mondesi.
Drew Osborne at Royals Farm Report gives his take on the Chance Adams trade.
Adams fastball seems to play up better out of the pen than the rotation. The Royals are looking at Adams to fill a spot in their bullpen. It’s possible that they want to see what he looks like as a starter in spring training as well but his future is probably the pen where his fastball and slider should improve. Adams also throws a change up and a curve. The change up has arm side run, some sink, and is effective at getting LHHs out.
Clint Scoles at Royals Academy profiles pitcher Yunior Marte.
The future is now for Marte with the pitching group coming behind him and the Royals acquiring pitchers at the major league level. The pitches are there fortunately for Marte to get to the next level with a fastball that ranges from 92-97 mph. After struggling with a feel for his slider during the 2017 season Marte has refined it and made it a better offering, able to manipulate it some into a pair of offerings as a slurve or a better late biting slider.
