Maldonado makes his first appearance in Royal blue

With just over a week to go to opening day, the Kansas City Royals will face the Chicago Cubs after some key opening day personnel decisions have been decided. Of note is newly-signed catcher Martin Maldonado, who will make his spring debut in Royal blue tonight at the plate.

We’re more or less down to the ultimate roster here. Eight of the nine hitters tonight will make the opening day roster, and Frank Schwindel is likely the very first call-up when the Royals need another bat. The reserves are more of a tossup, but that’s what you get in spring training.

The Cubs will use this lineup:

Ben Zobrist is still a Cub, but he’s in a split squad game against the Seattle Mariners with the other half of the Cubs.
