Royals Rumblings - News for March 25, 2019

Ned Yost will not have defined bullpen roles this year.

Yost has indicated he will not start the season with traditional roles, as he has in the past, waiting instead for the season to get going to see how things will play out. He’s not sure if Kansas City will have a defined closer or not.

“Right now, they’re all in the circle of trust,” Yost said. “Once the season starts, we’ll look ... to individual matchups. Who does Diekman match up with? Perlata, Hill, McCarthy, Boxberger? We don’t know.”

Danny Duffy think his shoulder stiffness that will keep him out to start the year is a minor roadblock.

Around the clubhouse, though, Duffy has remained in good spirits. The shoulder injury from early in camp is just a speed bump, he said, in a long season.

“If I was five years younger, I would have broken my hand against a wall [in anger],” Duffy said. “But I’m older, and I’m able to compartmentalize these [injury] things. There are some things just out of your control. You try to stay positive.”

Lynn Worthy makes his roster predictions.

Boxberger, Diekman, Peralta, Kennedy and McCarthy are all safe bets due to their experience and backgrounds. Tim Hill gives the group a second left-hander with Brian Flynn likely to start on the injured list and Richard Lovelady in the minors. Zimmer has been stellar all spring, and Barlow could be the long man.
