Here is your Royals’ 2019 Opening Day roster!

The Royals have officially announced their 25-man Opening Day roster, although we had a good idea of who might be on it. The team will open with a three-man starting rotation due to all the early off-days, and they won’t need to add Homer Bailey to the rotation until a fourth starter is needed, likely April 3. Lucas Duda was a late addition to the roster, signing with the team last week, and he will serve as a veteran bat that could DH and push Jorge Soler to right field. You could also see Whit Merrifield and Chris Owings spend some time in right field as both offer a lot of positional versatility. Frank Schwindel, who hit 41 home runs over the last two seasons in AAA Omaha, also makes the team as a first baseman and could make his Major League debut. Kyle Zimmer, the oft-injured former first-round pick made the roster after a sensational spring training and will also look to make his Major League debut, as will Rule 5 pick Chris Ellis.

The Royals will begin the season with Salvador Perez, who is out for the year with an elbow injury, and Danny Duffy, who experienced shoulder stiffness and is aiming to return in late April. Brian Flynn was also placed on the injured list today and Trevor Oaks was placed on the 60-day injured list.
