The big news about today’s game is that Kelvin Gutierrez will be making his big league debut, today. Gutierrez is the fifth such Royal to do so, this season. Chris Ellis made his debut as a Royal before being returned to the Cardinals organization.
Beyond that, you’ll see the standard stuff for a Royals game in what already appears to be a lost season, competitively. The good news is that at least there are young players making an impact already. A stark contrast from last season.
The Royals will send Jorge López to the mound. He’s rocking a K/BB ration in excess of three but is allowing too many hits and home runs to have success. He’s still looking for his first win on the season.
The Angels will counter with Cam Bedrosian. Not really, but that’s what the lineup cards will say. Cam is a reliever and this will be only his second big league “start” His first was against the Yankees earlier this week when he struck out two and walked one in a scoreless first inning before being replaced by Felix Pena. Jaime Barria was the pitcher of record for the Angels on Sunday after being opened for by Hansel Robles. He was also listed as the starter on the Royals website before it was announced that Bedrosian would be opening. Former Met, Matt Harvey would be on five days’ rest if they chose to go that route, as well. But my money is on Barria.
