Entering yesterday’s double-header, the Royals had lost their last 12 games against the now first-place Tampa Bay Rays. They ended that streak by sweeping the double-header, taking the first game 3-2 on the back of Jakob Junis and tagging reigning Cy Young award winner Blake Snell for seven earned runs across just 3.0 innings of work in a 8-5 game two win.
This afternoon, the Royals send Danny Duffy to the mound looking to win their first series against the Rays since May of 2017. That series, also a four-game set, ended with Jason Vargas and his 1.01 ERA leading the Royals to a 6-0 win.
The start will be Duffy’s second on the season, the first of which resulted in his first loss of the season, giving up three runs over his 5.0 innings. He will be opposed by 35-year-old Charlie Morton, who is making his 223rd career start, but just his 4th against the Royals.
