Weekend Rumblings - News for June 15, 2019

The Royals send Ryan O’Hearn down to bring up Jorge Bonifacio.

“Ryan O’Hearn just needs to reset,” manager Ned Yost said. “He’s working his tail off and not getting anywhere. Go down there for a couple weeks, three weeks, whatever it takes to relax a little bit.

“We weren’t getting anywhere. He was getting frustrated. He’s not a .180 hitter.”

Jorge Soler was ejected early from Friday’s game by umpire Hunter Wendelstedt for arguing balls and strikes.

The back-and-forth between Soler and Wendelstedt continued as Soler stepped away from the plate between pitches, but Soler got ejected when he stepped toward Wendelstedt and barked back.

“For some reason he’s real sensitive,” Yost said of Wendelstedt. “He thought he was being showed up. Of course, the pitch was 6 inches down. Soler told him it was down, and he said, ‘Well, it’s only the first pitch.’”

David Lesky discusses Khalil Lee in his Friday notes.

I had heard a couple weeks back that the Royals would really like to get Khalil Lee to Omaha at some point this season. I had always figured that would come after some trades opened up outfield spots in the big leagues for some combination of Brett Phillips, Bubba Starling and Jorge Bonifacio, but still, it’s something they seem to want. When I had heard that, he was playing poorly. Through May 25th, he hit .240/.337/.347. It wasn’t all bad. He was walking a fair amount and stealing a ton of bases with great success, but that line is ugly. Since then, he’s been on fire, hitting .351/.471/.579 with three home runs and seven steals in nine tries. His walk rate in that time is 17.2 percent and his strikeout rate is 24.3 percent, which is still a bit high, but much better.
