The Kansas City Royals have recalled third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez to take place Hunter Dozier’s roster spot. The Royals had placed Dozier on the 10-day IL, retroactive to May 31, due to a thorax injury. Dozier will be eligible to return on June 10.

Gutierrez hit .281/.300/.386 with one home run in 15 games for the Royals earlier this season. He has enjoyed a nice year in Triple-A Omaha, however, where he has a healthy .312/.430/.403 triple slash over 22 games. Gutierrez has two home runs and a 16.1% walk rate in the minors.
Going forward, Gutierrez and newly-recalled Cheslor Cuthbert will likely share playing time at third base, first base, and as the designated hitter. Both are in the lineup for tonight’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
