This entire season has seemed like a home run derby, but baseball will officially hold its annual mid-season home run competition tonight at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN. Jorge Soler did not get invited, despite finishing the first half tied for fourth in baseball with 23 home runs, many of them hit in majestic manner.
Instead, the Derby will include one of the game’s rising stars in Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. of the Blue Jays and hard-hittin’ rookie sensation Peter Alonso of the Mets. Pittsburgh’s Josh Bell - who placed one in the Allegheny River this year - will also compete, along with young Braves star Ronald Acuna. Houston’s Alex Bregman, Oakland’s Matt Chapman, Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson, and Cleveland’s own Carlos Santana round out the field.
