2019 has not been friendly to Jorge Lopez. Through his 84.1 innings, only three pitchers have an ERA higher than his 6.19 ERA and two of those guys pitch in Colorado. Since his move to the bullpen back in May, his luck has only gotten better, registering a 5.23 ERA over 32.2 innings pitched.
Thanks to an injury to Danny Duffy, Lopez will get another crack at starting, at least for tonight. He will take on the Tigers, one of the few teams that Lopez has pitched well against with a 3.79 ERA over 19.0 innings. His April 6 start in Detroit was his best of the season, going 6.0 innings and giving up just one earned run. It was his only start of the season in which he surrendered less than two earned runs.
In other news, catcher Nick Dini will make his major league debut tonight as Cam Gallagher heads to the 10-day IL.
