However bad you think the Kansas City Royals are, the Detroit Tigers are actually much worse. This is a bit of an odd predicament; while the Royals have been awful for a quarter century other than the three-year stretch that culminated in the 2015 World Series, the Tigers had a very long stretch of competence, themselves participating in multiple World Series and grooming at least two Hall of Fame talent players.

That team is no more. Tonight, in what is very assuredly the battle of whatever the opposite of ‘titans’ are, the Royals will face the Tigers at Kauffman Stadium for the last set between the two squads of the season.

Thanks to September callups, we will see multiple new faces in this series on both sides.

May the best/worst/whatever team win/lose/whatever. It’s a weird spot for two losing teams to be in, but it is what it is. Baseball!
