I’ve never been big on Halloween so getting the Rumblings on Halloween itself is probably a missed opportunity. My best thoughts/feelings/memories about Halloween were expressed on the podcast I produce this week. The Halloween episode serves as our anniversary episode every year and this week was just that episode. We got into our favorite Halloween treats and which monster we’d choose to take on in a fight. It was quite a discussion.
On to the rumblings...
Alec Lewis at The Athletic took a deep dive into the Royals’ use of analytics during the 2020 season.
The information gets interesting when considering the Royals’ potential outfield in 2021. A platoon with Edward Olivares and Franchy Cordero makes sense on the surface, but Olivares actually had reverse platoon splits this season; he posted a .230 wOBA against lefties and a .301 wOBA against righties. A small sample doesn’t explain that. In 2018, he posted a .772 OPS against righties and .668 OPS against lefties. In 2019, he posted a .817 OPS against righties and .745 OPS against lefties.
The Royals made a video catching up with Rusty Kuntz. Not a lot of info but he did mention that the guys in the Fall Camp at Kauffman were mostly guys expected to be in AA and AAA next season. Among those players is Bobby Witt Jr. and Erick Pena.
Kevin O’Brien asks the question “Should Edward Olivares be a starting outfielder for 2021?”
Shawn Bauman writes at Kings of Kauffman that the Royals should pass on recently-made-free agent, Kolton Wong
Fangraphs released their rankings of the top 50 free agents and made guesses on the contracts needed to attain their services.
Keith Law published his own rankings over at The Athletic.
In case you needed a reminder that it pays to cheat in baseball...

The Pitch the results of their Best in KC ‘20 Awards. Royals Review was not nominated so I’m officially questioning the validity of the winners.

Gathering stories on the internet has spoiled a genuinely amazing moment from the new season of The Mandalorian for me, now I can’t wait to get into it.
This isn’t news but it is very funny.

Fantasy Football Player of the Week
I’m not good at this... I thought I was better. I am not. So I’m going to end this segment.
FINE I’LL KEEP GOING!!!
Darrell Henderson Jr., RB, Los Angeles Rams
My Fantasy Football Player of the Week is Darrell Henderson Jr. The Rams running back is going against the Miami Dolphins who are 3rd in the league in most yards allowed per rush. The Rams will be running the ball because the game script will call for it. The Dolphins are running their new rookie QB out there and those debuts are usually offensive duds (I don’t have proof of that). I think Henderson will answer the call and bring some solid points from the FLEX position.
Song of the Day
You know I had to do it to you. My 3 year old daughter somehow found out about this song and needed to hear it this year. I had avoided it for a literal decade prior to it and, now that I have heard it, it’ll be in my head for the next decade. So too will your destiny be after hitting play below. Have a great, spooky, and safe Halloween Saturday, Royals Review!
