I’m starting this week’s Saturday Rumblings with a historic and rare feat accomplished by the Miami Marlins yesterday.

It’s about time, right? This is both ridiculously cool and ridiculously ridiculous. Finally a woman AND an Asian American was chosen to be a general manager for the first time in North American sports. And it only took a couple centuries! Yay 2020.

Seriously though, this is a big deal. Kim Ng is overqualified to become a general manager for the first time. And that’s not just my opinion; that seems to be the consensus. Yes there are trolls out there still living in the 1850s, but her hire was very obvious across. the. board.

And there in lies the most unlikely part about this whole thing: most people that follow the game closely seem to think that this wasn’t a PR stunt of a hire, it was more than deserved. I won’t go over Kim’s resume, I’d rather point you to Lindsey Adler’s article for The Athletic that addresses what Kim’s hire means to the women who work in baseball. My point is that in a time with such tribalism and tension in all areas, including baseball, this hire seemed majorly justified and celebrated, and that’s incredibly hopeful to see. It’s about damn time.

On to the Rumblings...

Yesterday would have been Buck O’Neil’s 109th birthday.

In honor of Buck, the Royals announced the amount of money they raised by selling his singing bobblehead earlier this year.

Speaking of Buck O’Neil and the Negro League HoF, some Josh Gibson footage was circulating around Twitter yesterday. It’s not much but I continue to marvel at how big that dude was; big like if you put Bo and Salvy together big.

I miss LoCain

The trailer for the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion has got me in...

As does the trailer for the new season of Big Mouth...

And for my fellow Marvel nerds out there, Asguardians of the Galaxy is definitely going to be a thing.

Fantasy Player Curse of the Week

Jerry Jeudy, WR, DEN

The old adage goes that you can’t trust anyone with two first names. Throw in the fact that he’s a Bronco and you might be surprised to find him here.

But Jeudy has been a monster the last two weeks (11 receptions for 198 yards and 1 TD on 24 targets) and this week he goes up against the Las Vegas pass defense that is 7th worst in the league according to DVOA. Denver is going to have to pass the ball to keep up with the Raider offense (a sentence I can’t believe I just typed) so they will be throwing it quite a bit.

And if I just cursed him, he’s a Bronco.

Song of the Day

Anberlin - Feel Good Drag

I dunno about you all but I’ve got a yard full of leaves calling my name this weekend. Since the Chiefs are in a bye (and seemingly all of college football catching Covid) it’s probably prime time for raking. And why not get it started with another Screamo song to get the adrenaline pumping? If you’re into the same kinda music that me and my friends are into, I’d suggest this playlist on Spotify. It’s labeled as a camping playlist but it’s got a little bit of everything: hip hop, country, folk, 20 minute guitar solos, everything. Most of the songs were from the best decade of music ever: the 2010s. Thank me later. Have a Saturday, everybody!
