Royals Rumblings - News for November 30, 2020

Royals owner John Sherman discusses the possibility of a downtown stadium with the KC Star building now available.

Over the next 10 years, we’ll be evaluating different ideas. At the end of the day, it’s about what’s best for our fans, what’s best for the community and what’s best for the ballclub. We’ve got lots of ideas coming to us, but the more pressing thing really right now, as we came through a challenging year where we didn’t have fans in the field, we had a short season. Right now, the energies are focused on how we navigate 2021. We think things will get a lot better for us, but there’s still some uncertainty and how the virus and the vaccine development distribution works out. We’re certainly hopeful, but that’s where a lot of the focus is.

But there’s an awful lot of people interested in downtown baseball. And, I think it’s something that we’ll be thinking about. But, it’s not a kind of today item.

MLB.com lists each team’s top Rule 5 available prospect.

Royals: Seuly Matias, OF (No. 14) Matias’ profile is unchanged from a year ago, when he went unselected in the Rule 5 Draft. The 31 home runs Matias hit in 2018, his only healthy full-season campaign, accurately reflect the 22-year-old outfielder’s massive raw power and potential game power, and he reportedly made gains in his plate discipline and contact this past summer after posting alarmingly high strikeout rates early in his career.

Clint Scoles at Royals Academy considers a Brad Keller trade.

Twitter was spinning around a possible trade of Brad Keller the other day, and that affirmed my belief that the Royals shouldn’t be looking to get too crazy a contract extension for him. Dayton said the team needs to get more transactional. Keller is the perfect fit for that. Yes, he was solid last season, but how repeatable is that with only two quality pitches in this game? For a team like the Angels with so much money committed to winning and in desperate need of pitching, Keller is the perfect candidate to land some very quality position players that are nearly ready.
