Royals Rumblings - News for December 5, 2020

Gettin’ transactional

Kansas City Royals Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Dayton Moore speaks to the media during spring training media day at the Glendale Civic Center. Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Has everyone made it through their Thanksgiving leftovers yet? I have tried many a thing with the turkey to give it new life. I had some turkey cacciatore (recommended), turkey pot pie (very solid), and turkey in my protein shake (do not do that). And I’m glad to say that all of it is gone. Now I need to find some new ways to resurrect a mountain of noodles.

On to the Rumblings...

Dayton Moore talked to MLB Network about the recent acquisitions of Mike Minor and Michael A. Taylor.

Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo, & Mike Rosenbaum collaborated for an article at mlb.com profiling one prospect from every team that could be dealt.

Royals: Seuly Matias, OF (No. 14)
Matias, 22, will be nearly three years removed from his 31-homer full-season debut when the 2021 season kicks off, but all reports suggest that his raw power was as good as ever this past summer, with the slugger also making improvements in his approach. While the Royals’ decision to not add Matias to their 40-man roster for a second straight year is a telling one, other teams might see him as a buy-low candidate with an elite power ceiling if it all clicks.

I had some opinions about the Royals recent moves on my podcast Clearing Waivers this week. Check out the preview below and check out the full rant in the episode over at our YouTube channel

Kevin O’Brien at Royals Reporter broke down the three questions that fans will be asking about the MLB Winter Meetings next week.

Chris “C.Y.” Young is headed to Texas to generally manage the Rangers.

Warner Brothers is sending all their new 2021 movies to HBO Max as well as theaters, potentially changing the movie game forever.

The US House of Reps voted to decriminalize marijuana on the federal level.

There’s building steam for a Metal Gear Solid movie with Oscar Isaac.

Big Mouth Season 4 is now streaming on Netflix and the first three seasons were fantastic.

Fantasy Football Player Curse of the Week

Jarvis Landry, WR, Cleveland Browns
The streak was officially broken (for the most part) when I got a bit greedy picking Tom Brady for the 2nd straight week. The curse was taken down to the tune of 345 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 picks against KC, coming in as QB5 on the week.

This week, I’m going with a player from the game with the highest over/under on the week. Jarvis Landry is coming off a week where he came in as WR3 in week 12. If you throw out the two weeks prior to that (because the weather was really bad) he’s averaging 9.3 targets and catching 5.6 of them for 81 yards. That’s the kind of floor I like to start from and, with this expected to be a high scoring game, I think the odds are good that he sees the endzone.

And for the record, this will effectively curse him as I am not facing him in any of my leagues and I’m actually being forced to play Baker Mayfield in one and I want to not have to do that. GO BROWNS!

Song of the Day

“Safe and Sound” - Capital Cities

I accidentally saw these guys in concert and I recognized this song from a Chevy commercial. They opened the show with this song and closed it with an extra long remix of it. And both times crushed. They were out in the crowd, everybody was dancing, all the world was right. So take a minute for yourself. Get up and do a little dance. It’s Saturday. Let’s get some positivity flowing through those veins. Have a great day, Royals Review.
