We are getting down to the sweetest 16 players in Royals history. We divided 64 players into four eras - The Herzog era (1969-1980), the Howser era (1981-1994), the Muser era (1995-2010), and the Yost era (2011-2019). You can see how players fared in the second round of voting in the Muser bracket here and in the Yost bracket here.

#1 Zack Greinke vs. #4 Mike Sweeney
Being one of the four Cy Young winners in club history helps, as Greinke took 74 percent of the vote against #9 seed Joakim Soria. Mike Sweeney had no problem slugging his way to the third round, taking 87 percent of the vote against #5 seed David DeJesus.

#2 Carlos Beltran vs. #3 Kevin Appier
Joe Randa was a popular player, but he couldn’t overcome the gifts of Carlos Beltran, who took 69 percent of the vote in round two. Kevin Appier had an even closer vote against #6 seed Johnny Damon, taking just 64 percent of the vote.

Yost Bracket
#1 Alex Gordon vs. #4 Eric Hosmer
Alex Gordon and Billy Butler were both first-round picks, but it was Gordo who won over more hearts with 93 percent of the vote in round two. Wade Davis had the biggest first round upset as a #12 seed, but his Cinderella run ends with Eric Hosmer taking 63 percent of the vote.

Perez deserves a Salvy Splash of his own for taking 93 percent of the vote against Danny Duffy in round two, but he’ll face his hermanito, Lorenzo Cain, who took 66 percent of the vote against #6 seed Mike Moustakas.
