Nick Heath talks about the impact of Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier 73 years ago yesterday.

“I’m sure there was a lot of hate coming from a lot of different directions,” said Heath, who led all of minor-league baseball in stolen bases last year. “For him to face that off the field, face that on the field and then have to play and manage a family and manage all the other things adults have to manage in life, this guy was like the complete package. He’s about as well-rounded as it’s going to come.

”If I’m looking up to somebody, that’s the type of person I want to look up to. The legacy he left behind just kind of challenges us to do the same and leave a footprint behind, leave something behind for somebody else.”

Lynn Worthy talks to agent Scott Barber about how changes to the draft may impact players.

After speaking with multiple scouting directors and baseball executives, Barber estimated 95 percent of players projected in the Top 300 had been extensively evaluated. MLB clubs have been able to establish a performance history and deep familiarity with these prospects.

”The players hurt by the shortened spring are the ones getting some late helium for this year’s draft — either the (high school) upside kid who was starting to realize his potential adding some velocity or the pop-up kid who was starting to fill out and really impact the baseball,” Barber wrote. “They will likely end up in college now for 3 years and we’ll see them again in 2023.”

One scout I spoke with said he was pressing in June, expanding his strikezone, looking tired at times but he and the scouts he spoke with thought he would be able to rake longterm. That was certainly still the thought after instructs for most when he started to flash more power and look the part. Early in his introduction, there was some thought that Witt Jr. may grow out of the shortstop position but it won’t be his actions and feel to move him off the position. He glides to the ball, has outstanding internal timing and a plus arm that helps him make the regular and tough plays at the position
