The most beloved Royals of all-time - Muser bracket second round

Not a lot of wins, but some good memories nonetheless.

The second round of our most beloved Royals bracket continues. We divided the players into four eras - the Herzog bracket (1969-1980), the Howser bracket (1981-1994), the Muser bracket (1995-2010), and the Yost bracket (2011-2019) and seeded them roughly by WAR. You can see how the first round of the voting went for the Muser bracket here.

You can still vote on the first round for the Yost bracket. You can vote on the second round of the Herzog bracket here and the Howser bracket here.

Vote for the most beloved Royals players in the second round of the Muser bracket below. Voting will run through Sunday morning.

#1 Zack Greinke vs. #9 Joakim Soria

Greinke was one of just three pitchers to win a Cy Young Award with the Royals, so no surprise he took 93 percent of the vote against shortstop Rey Sanchez. Joakim Soria squeaked by outfielder Jermaine Dye with both players splitting the vote with 50 percent of the vote - Soria got 612 votes, while Dye got......611. Never say your vote doesn’t matter.

#4 Mike Sweeney vs. #5 David DeJesus

Mike Sweeney played for some bad teams so he tends to get overlooked, but our voters recognized him by giving him 96 percent of the vote against pitcher Jeff Suppan. Outfielder David DeJesus also won his first round matchup easily with 91 percent of the vote against two-time All-Star pitcher Jose Rosado.

#2 Carlos Beltran vs. #7 Joe Randa

It was a tough matchup for #15 seed Raul Ibanez, who was a terrific player, but was seeded low because of defense and a short stint in KC. Carlos Beltran bested him, but with just 71 percent of the vote against the popular Ibanez. Joe Randa also proved to be a popular player, getting 88 percent of the vote against Jose Offerman in round one.

#3 Kevin Appier vs. #6 Johnny Damon

“Planet Ape” was a tough pitcher, and it is no surprise he bested second baseman Mark Grudzielanek with 90 percent of the vote. Johnny Damon has a mixed legacy in Kansas City, while his first round opponent Gil Meche is generally respected for his time, but Damon still took 78 percent of the vote to advance to round two.
