Jorge Soler is back, everyone! Everyone’s favorite home run-mashing Cuban missed 14 games with a strained oblique but is back, baby! Back! Soler’s presence significantly lengthens the Kansas City Royals lineup, as it allows them to put four legitimately above average hitters in their lineup at the same time.
Of course, Soler’s return comes at dark times. First, while it is game 54, we only have six more games after this one. It is most definitely sad, as I was just truly getting into the swing of baseball. Coming up, I will have to try and repeatedly fail to come up with interesting topics in the offseason. Apologies in advance.
Second, the Royals are on a bit of a skid, having lost four of their last five games, including three straight to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Third, the Royals are playing the evil St. Louis Cardinals tonight, who might have missed the playoffs for the fourth time in five years—save for the shortened COVID-induced season in combination with expanded playoffs. Alas, they seem likely to make the playoffs. That is, unless the Royals sweep the Cardinals. It’s possible! Let’s hope!
It’s Carlos Hernandez to the mound for Kansas City in his second career start. Veteran Adam Wainwright will get the bill for St. Louis.
