Matheny tossed as Cardinals beat Royals

Yuck, yuck, yuck.

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Kansas City Royals Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The Royals, now 22-33 with just five games left, got blown out by the Cardinals. I don’t have anything interesting to tell you about this game.

Well, there is one thing - Mike Matheny got tossed! Brady Singer walked a bunch of dudes and Matheny was apparently mad about some of the calls. So when he went out to pull Singer in the fourth, he got rang by the home plate umpire. That was great!

Singer was a total disaster in his penultimate start of 2020. He got nine outs and gave up eight baserunners, five of which were walks. He only gave up three runs, which was really fortunate considering how bad his command was. He just didn’t have it. He did manage to strike out four, I guess.

The uniforms were nice. Other than that, I got nothing. The Royals’ offense didn’t score and managed just four hits against the Cardinals. They didn’t score and they really didn’t threaten at any point before the game became an essential blowout.

Five games are left. Tomorrow is the rubber match of the series between the Royals and the Cardinals. It will be Danny Duffy making his final start of the year. First pitch is at 7:00, and the game is on ESPN2.
