The 117th World Series will begin tonight between the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves. The two used to be National League opponents, in the days when Nolan Ryan faced off against Doyle Alexander (followed immediately by The Beastmaster, on TBS!)
The Astros open as a slight favorite at most sportsbooks You can read a terrific series preview from David Lesky here. The Astros will be without pitcher Lance McCullers, Jr. and will have to hold their pitching staff together on the backs of Luis Garcia, and former Royals Zack Greinke and possibly Jake Odorizzi. Meanwhile, the 88-win Braves have been rolling lately, thanks to a transformed outfield that includes former Royals slugger Jorge Soler. Speaking of former Royals, pinch-runner extraordinaire was added to the World Series roster by the Braves, which could be fun.
Charlie Morton goes for Atlanta tonight against Framber Valdez.
